Tara and Jimmy’s Wedding

July 9, 2011

When I first met with Tara in September of last year, I had no idea that she was going to become such a good friend throughout this wedding planning process. Being a part of Tara and Jimmy’s wedding has been such an honor and I have loved getting to know them, their friends, and their families.

Everything about their wedding Tara had thought out and planned with such detail. When we started out with the planning, the wedding had just a little Indian influence to honor her father. However, as the planning process went along, more and more Indian influence seemed to get added into the mix. At one point I think we realized that the entire wedding was just going to be very Indian-inspired and ran with it. :)

From the custom made gowns from India (that I got to alter) and golden manzanita branches to Indian drummers and elephants galore, their wedding was simply amazing. I really could go on about each detail that Tara planned, but I’ll let the pictures (and my comments interspersed) tell you instead.

The broach is Tara’s grandmothers and the beaded bracelet Noah made for her to wear. So sweet.

This dress was gorgeous on her. Yes, it was heavy. I would know; I did the alterations on it. My arms got workouts just from lifting it up and sewing on all the rhinestones.

It’s a long staircase, but they rocked it.

Fabulous Fondant

No, I do not have a new talent. I just have a new appreciation for cake decorators, especially those that work with fondant.

I began my endeavor this afternoon and for 3 hours I kneaded, molded and formed my way to a two tier fondant cake. The main purpose for this endeavor was because after reading an article on why you shouldn’t make your own wedding {fondant especially} cake, I decided to prove the article wrong. Just so you know, I have no training in cake decorating, nor have I taken any classes (although, now I am hooked and am eager to take classes).

Now, let me say that in no way is the cake perfect. The one thing about fondant is that it will show every imperfection (bump, thumbprint, etc) so getting it perfectly smooth is a challenge. Then there is the whole draping it over the cake and getting it the size right… So, the verdict? Yes, it is hard and takes some patience, but is it impossible, no. And if a bride really wants to make her own cake, she should sign up for classes at her local craft store and see how she does.
