Exciting News

I am so happy with life right now. I have been making some big decisions that will affect JS Weddings and Events and I couldn’t be more excited. I have been really contemplating how I can grow as a small business and how I can use my love of events and design in new ways. After months of contemplation, I have decided to offer floral design services as well as quirky event rentals (like the bust below). The floral design services will fall under JS Weddings and Events, but the event rentals will be a whole new business. I am hoping to offer the floral services starting in a few months, but the event rentals part will take a little longer to flourish. But don’t worry, I’ll make sure to keep you posted on the progress of both new ventures right here on the blog.

Mindless Ramblings

“My brain is giving me the silent treatment today.”

I saw this quote on someecards.com and it seemed quite fitting for me today. I have been sitting here staring at my computer screen, unable to form a complete sentence for this post. Luckily, I haven’t needed my brain too much today since I was using my creative side which comes more naturally. I have been busy playing with centerpiece ideas for a bride and getting my hands dirty playing with some succulents.

Also, in just a short week I get to leave the country for a very special wedding to celebrate two very extraordinary people. I have been eagerly anticipating this wedding and I have been sewing my little fingers off in order to have my dress completed in time. Usually if I make a dress I start months in advance, but the past 8 months I have been busy designing and sewing a wedding dress for a friend who got married in May.

I finished the dress late April and as always, I needed a short break from the needle and thread. Luckily, I have a friend who has been helping me string thousands of beads for my dress. Both of our eyes are going cross eyed, but the end is in sight.

Happy Saturday.

Halfway through

“Summer afternoon – summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.” Henry James

I can’t believe that we are almost halfway through the year. There is something about summer where even though the days are longer, they seem to fly by. With summer being the busiest time for me and most weekends filled with weddings, when I find a free weekend, I savor it. This May I took a long weekend to visit my brother and my three nieces in Colorado before the busiest part of my wedding season started. Even with weddings on the horizon, I left my laptop and work at home for a much needed break. While it was anything but relaxing since those three little girlies kept me pretty busy, being covered with kisses and hugs made it well worth it.

Something Blue

I love tradition. Yes, they might be old, stuffy, and boring to some, but things with a long history usually mean more to me. This is where my love of antiques comes from. Growing up, I would go over to my Grandparent’s house a few times a week and it was there that I was surrounded by vintage everything. I grew up playing croquet and badminton in their back yard, canning fruit in mason jars, and talking on a wall mounted candlestick telephone.

In ancient times, blue was the symbol of faithfulness, purity and fidelity. While many brides opt not to follow the old English tradition, often a blue item can be stylishly incorporated into your bridal attire. Traditionally, brides wore a garter that was blue or worked blue flowers into their bouquet or hairpiece. However, there are some more modern ways to add a little blue to your look. Shoes are probably my favorite way to wear blue, especially if you can land yourself a pretty pair of these (photo by Rothwell Photography) or these! Seriously. Stunning.

Jewelry is another easy way to add a touch of blue. A ring on your right hand or a pair of killer chandelier earrings can be a fun and unexpected way to wear blue. Below is a vintage yellow gold ring that I had custom set with a marquise cut aquamarine stone for my dear friend. When I came across this ring it had a deep red garnet stone but with a small change, the delicate 1940’s gold bow ring became gorgeous.
