Another week, another arrangement. Mondays are starting to be a lot more colorful and I am thankful for my friend who keeps my life beautiful, grand and smelly.

From September 6 through September 13, New York City was a buzz of activity as New York Fashion Week kicked off the global calendar of Fashion Weeks. And, what better way to kick off Fashion Week with style than to have one night completely dedicated to the love of fashion?

This September was the third time I was able to work at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Each time I visit this city, I come back home with new adventures and stories. This year I was fortunate enough to meet and spend time with Monika Chiang and Lancôme National Makeup Artist Darais at Monika’s Soho boutique. I also was blessed to have the opportunity to sew some amazing dresses at Giulietta that were part of her 2013 Spring Collection show. Working backstage as a dresser at the Mark McNairy fashion show was an exciting and unique experience as well.

However, after five days of constant subway jumping, insane heat waves, and a whirlwind of, quite literally, running around the island of Manhattan, it is good to be home.

Thrifting and Antiquing

“Swirls of antique stained glass, blazes of brass, forests of carved wood and waterfalls of crystal combine to make up the city’s most fabulously festive interior.” – Mimi Sheraton

Growing up as the youngest of four and with a sister who was five years older than me, I used to despise anything that was used and old. Clothes, toys, anything. Luckily, I grew out of that stage and learned from furnishing my college apartments and my current house, that sometimes older is better. While antiquing and thrifting can be hard and tiring work, the treasures one can find, especially for a wedding or event, are well worth it. This how I found myself, willingly, on a Saturday morning, joining my dear friend (an interior designer and expert thrifter and antiquer), trouncing around West Michigan, on the hunt for wedding finds. Below are some fun items we came across in our hunt.

September is finally here and that means that fall is here as well. With fall comes my favorite event: Fall Fashion Week. For the past 2 years I have been blessed with the opportunity to go to New York City for Mercedes-Benz Fall Fashion Week. This opportunity has given me the chance to learn how to put on fashion shows, work backstage with numerous crews, see gorgeous clothes and see famous fashion shows.

September also means that I get to be in the big city for Fashion’s Night Out. This iconic event is where everyone from you and I, to models, designers, stars, and fashionistas, come together on September 6,  and flood stores in cities all across the country and around the world. FNO was founded four years ago in New York City by Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers of America. The incentive behind creating this global celebration of fashion was to help boost the economy and consumer confidence. Cities across the globe participate to put on fabulous in store events and promotions. Last year’s bash featured events in eighteen countries and more than 4,500 events here in the States.
