Monday Morning Ramblings

Grand Rapids Wedding Planner

Monday mornings are my sleep in morning. By sleep in, I mean getting up at 8:30am. Most Monday’s I use to catch up on office duties like going through emails and papers before I meet up with Surekha of Quite Contrary. But this morning I decided that it all could wait because the sun was shining in and Jane Eyre was quietly whispering my name from my bedside table. So, there I found myself, opening the beloved book by Charlotte Brontë, to page 23, where I had last stopped reading and delved back into my mother’s favorite novel. Reading. Recently, I seem to have pushed this much-loved pastime aside due to an increasingly busy life of planning weddings, designing clothes, and growing as a small business owner. The things I do read regularly these days include my Thesaurus, my emails, my blog as I avidly check for grammar and spelling mistakes and the smattering of wedding-home décor-fashion magazines that are strewn upon my desk. Pathetic, yes, but here’s to hoping that there will be a little more Jane in my life.

A Quite Contrary Baby Shower

February 23, 2013
I have been truly blessed to have a wonderful friend like Surekha. So, when Surekha’s friend Jen asked me to help her plan a shower, I was delighted to have the chance to honor Surekha and her soon-to-be baby. Throughout the few months of planning, Jen and I had quite the (mis)adventures picking out chew toys, assembling a diaper cake, and deciding how to create a non-traditional baby shower. With a theme of white, light blue and elephants, Jen and I were able to design a unique and classy event. With our divide and conquer method, I worked on creating décor elements using some of Surekha’s favorite things, such as elephants, flowers, and books. Jen, a culinary expert, created a gourmet spread full of fresh and local food and drink (with a few microbrews in honor of Surekha). With an intimate guest list and with Surekha’s love of Downtown Grand Rapids, we were able to hold the event in the heart of the city at Grid 70. With the evening snowfall and the city streets aglow, it was a perfect way to end a lovely evening for an even lovelier friend.

A Quite Contrary Evening

I have grown accustomed to my weekly flowers from my friend Surekha of Quite Contrary. Knowing every Monday I will be on the receiving side of a beautiful bouquet of flowers makes Monday’s a little less unpleasant. However, when I get a chance to go out traipsing along with her while she hunts for the perfect vase or stem, it makes it that much better. This is how we found ourselves on a Monday night in Target scouring the home décor aisles for a vase for some rustic roses. And it is in these very excursions that one usually stumbles upon a unique find that results in a distinctive arrangement.
